Nevermined is synonymous with laboratory-grown diamonds. We stand for sustainable, transparent and conflict-free diamond production. We are one of the first manufacturers in Germany to pioneer the field of lab-grown diamonds (LGD) for the jewellery industry.
At our manufacturing facilities in Essen, Germany, we use the CVD process to produce laboratory-grown diamonds of the highest quality for mandana and the entire jewellery industry. We operate our facilities using 100% natural electricity. We are currently working on producing some of the electricity ourselves in the future. We have thought through our supply chain in a completely sustainable way and make it transparent for our partners.
Established in 2021
The idea of producing diamonds in the laboratory is not new. Lab-grown diamonds have been grown for the industry for decades. Unfortunately, LGD producers have so far worked almost exclusively outside Europe. For the founder and managing director of Nevermined, Christine Marhofer, it quickly became clear: sustainability and luxury cannot be combined as long as diamonds are transported over thousands of kilometres and the production conditions remain opaque. With the mission to revolutionise diamond production, she founded Nevermined GmbH in the heart of the Ruhr region together with Michael Marhofer in 2021.
Lab-grown diamonds
We produce our lab-grown diamonds for our sister company mandana. The Nevermined online shop is also accessible to other jewellery manufacturers and B2B customers. Nevermined is therefore the first choice when it comes to purchasing lab-grown diamonds – simple, fair and secure. All our diamonds from 0.5 ct (carat) are certified by one of the two best-known laboratories, the International Gemological Institute (IGI) or the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), and their authenticity and quality are confirmed. Our in-house team of physicists, chemists and engineers work around the clock to ensure that all lab-grown diamonds meet the strictest 4C quality standards.
We fulfil the same 4C standards as mine diamonds. We are revolutionising everything that is needed to finally produce diamonds fairly and sustainably.
The finished diamonds are in no way inferior to natural diamonds. They are optically, chemically and physically identical to naturally grown diamonds. Through intensive research, we at Nevermined have created a physical formula to grow real diamonds of the highest purity. We grow these using the CVD process (short for "Chemical Vapour Deposition") in specially designed facilities. Our Nevermined diamonds are therefore significantly more ecological than mine diamonds and ethically clean.
Sustainability, ethics and integrity
Compared to lab-grown diamonds, the mining of mined diamonds is associated with devastating problems. Natural diamonds are usually mined in open-cast and underground diamond mines. On average, over 200 tonnes of earth have to be moved to produce 1 carat of mine diamonds. Deforestation, soil degradation, the destruction of arable land, poorer air quality, groundwater contamination and noise pollution are often permanent and serious consequences for people and nature in the affected regions.
Naturally grown diamonds are also fraught with conflict from an ethical perspective. In some countries, the mining of diamonds is still associated with inhumane working conditions, forced labour and the exploitation of children. The Kimberley Process was launched in 2003 with the aim of preventing the trade in conflict diamonds with the help of certificates of origin. However, there is no one hundred per cent certainty of receiving a conflict-free diamond. The certificates of origin also do not ensure that the diamonds were mined under fair conditions.
Lab-grown diamonds can avoid all those ecological and social disadvantages. Our Nevermined diamonds grow exclusively under guaranteed ecologically, economically and socially sustainable conditions in Essen - climate-neutral and resource-saving. The entire production process is fuelled by 100% renewable energy. We are currently working on generating some of the electricity we need ourselves in the future.
We keep our values in mind at every stage of production. Sustainable materials, environmentally friendly production and fair working conditions are a matter of course for us. As our social responsibility is particularly important to us, we support the EarthChild e.V.. The charity has launched the Earth Child Project . Here, children learn to build a more intimate, mindful connection to themselves and to nature. This is done, for example, by building classrooms where children from disadvantaged schools can take part in yoga classes, mindfulness exercises and meditation. The children are also taught how to grow vegetables, for example through so-called worm farms. We are proud to be part of this organisation.

Sustainable diamond jewellery from our own hand
As the mother of three children, founder Christine Marhofer was passionate about the idea of creating something valuable and lasting for future generations. For this reason, she founded the company mandana - Next Generation Jewellery for Next Generation Customers – alongside Nevermined. In the Indian language, "mandana" means "piece of jewellery" or "adornment". The premium brand produces sustainable and high-quality diamond jewellery by hand. From lab-grown Nevermined rough diamonds to processing with recycled 750 gold (18 carat) in Europe to the finished jewellery collection. mandana is one of the few companies in Europe that produces jewellery with its own lab-grown diamonds.
Nevermined was founded to revolutionise diamond production. mandana has come to usher in a change: to an age where we express our values through jewellery.
